While researching this question I
stumbled upon a unique article from the Smithsonian about “the ancient pyramids
of Bosnia”. The article claims that experts are skeptical about the
authenticity of these pyramids and claim it is “pseudo archeology pressed into
the service of Nationalism”.
The famous steps that lead to the discover of the pyramid
The tunnels that are assumed to connect the two pyramids

This claim caught me by surprise.
In a country so recently debilitated by war, there arises hope from a cultural
past and this nationalism the critics speak of is a shining light for the
future. Many Bosnians have been brought together by the discovery of what are
said to be burial grounds that are older than the pyramids of Egypt. This
really reflects the discussion we had the other day about how these individuals
have lived together in harmony for millennia. Their culture is so deeply rooted
within the land and history that the country jumped onto this discovery and did
not question it.
Honestly, the claims of the
pyramid’s authenticity are irrelevant when analyzing what it has done for
Bosnia’s economy. From October 2005 to December 2009 over 400,000 people have
visited the pyramids and the man who made the discovery has become a sensation
to the people. This is not about the pyramids but instead it reflects the hope
brought to individuals by looking into their pasts. Their history is rich and
full of culture and despite tragedy they will always move forward.
I found it truly interesting that
the Bosnians of this area have been so revitalized by geology and ancient
culture. I think our ASK question is extremely fitting and we will find many
interesting connections to explore during our trip.
